A Beautiful Mind - Code Crackers

Fruit Dip:

Combine –

8 oz Cream Cheese

3 Tbs. Honey

3 Tbs. Apple Juice

½ Cup chopped Apples

½ Cup chopped Seedless Grapes

½ Cup chopped Pecans

Serve on assorted crackers.

In the Bedroom - In the Breadroom

Combine and let sit 5 minutes:

2 ¼ tsp. Yeast

¼ Cup warm milk

Mixing on a low speed, or by hand add:

1 Cup all-purpose flour

3 Large Eggs – slightly beaten

3 Tbs. Sugar

2 Tbs. Milk

1 tsp. Salt

Gradually stir in:

1 ¾ Cup Flour

Mix until all ingredients are well blended.  Kneed for 7 – 15 minutes until the dough is more elastic.  Resist the temptation to add more flour – the dough seems stickier than it is.

Add:

1 ½ sticks of butter, softened

Vigorously kneed the dough until the butter is well incorporated.  Place in a buttered         bowl, cover in plastic and let rise in a warm place until doubled in volume – about 1 ½     hours. Punch down, knead briefly, and refrigerate, covered, for 4 – 12 hours.  Punch it      down and re-shape it.  Butter muffin or brioche pan.  Divide the dough, equally, into 10  parts and roll into balls.  Using the edge of your hand, section (but do not divide) each ball into two parts, one twice the size of the other.  Set each ball into it’s own cup, the larger section on the bottom, smaller on top.  Push the top section down so that it is deeply nestled in the bottom and forms a sort of “head.”

Bundle 4 or 5 toothpicks together, wrap them in tinfoil, and grease them with Crisco. Insert one bundle, horizontally, through each “head” of the brioches.

Whisk together and brush over the dough:

1 egg

pinch of salt

Cover loosely with plastic wrap and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour.  Dip a sharp knife in cold water and cut four ½ inch deep incisions around crease where the top joins the base.  This will help the dough rise more evenly.  Bake at 375 until deep golden brown  – about 20 minutes.

After baking, remove the toothpick bundles.  Insert a softened Port Wine Cheese into    the hole (we found a cake decorating tube worked wonderfully!)  When all that is completed, you should end up with a lot of little rolls that look like people that have been shot through the head.  How about that for a lot of work for a  little  joke?

Notables

Size does matter – Shattering all previous records, the telecast runs 4 hours and 23 minutes.

And speaking of new records – Anne makes it through her first Oscars telecast from

beginning to end.  She even showed up 4 hours early!

“The Year of the Negro” – (As Stacey facetiously referred to this year) Halle Berry becomes the first African American to win Best Actress in the Academy’s 74 year  history.   Denzel Washington becomes the second African American to win Best Actor since Sidney Portier’s win 34 years ago.

Best Acceptance Speech – Halle Berry easily wins this for her utter shock at winning, taking two minutes to compose herself, then threatening the producers not to cut her off as her speech was 74 years in coming.

Best Moment – After being a notorious Oscar no-show, including the years he won awards, Woody Allen attends his first Oscars to show his support for his beloved New York City .

Running Gag – Laughs!  Thanks to the “What do movies mean to you?” montage, Woody Allen’s quipping, and Ben Stiller & Owen Wilson’s presentation for Best Costumes, we were all left giggling incessantly.
